Chronicle is a powerful 8-channel grid-based sequencer that puts deep control and fast, intuitive programming at your fingertips. Its illuminated 8×8 button grid gives you instant access to every step, whether you’re working on a single track or sculpting all eight channels at once. With microSD storage for up to 512 patterns and the ability to chain them into complete songs, Chronicle is ready for everything from quick sketches to full live sets.

Designed for both precision programming and performance, Chronicle offers real-time features like keyboard mode, microtonal root shifting, probability, ratcheting, and multi-page pattern editing. Sync multiple units via a standard patch cable and custom UART protocol to expand up to 32 channels without missing a beat. Front-loading microSD access makes backing up patterns, loading custom quantizer scales, and updating firmware quick and painless — so you can focus on the music, not the menus.

Firmware Update

Latest firmware version 1.47 is available to download here

To install the new firmware, drop the CHRONICLE_firmware.bin file into the root folder of your Chronicle's SD card (**see note below), power on the module with the card reinserted, and wait for the "UPDATE" text to scroll across the screen. After the update is completed (around 30 seconds total), the module will reboot and replay the standard startup procedure without the "UPDATE" text. You're now ready to go!

**For updates to V1.45 or higher from firmware versions below V1.45 - to enable the new calibration options, you must first delete the modes.json file from inside the SETTINGS folder on the SD card. This will be recreated by the Chronicle the next time it is powered up. Any quantization scale, clock in, clock out, or other options previously selected in the mode menu will be restored to default, now with the additional calibration toggle button below the record button.

Firmware notes - V1.47

  • Sequence length can now be set per channel, or globally:
    • Setting a sequence length by pressing a step button while in sequence length mode will set that as the final step in the sequence for that channel.
    • Doing the same as above but holding down the encoder button will set that sequence length for ALL channels.
  • Saving sequences now also saves the sequence length & sequence BPM.
  • Upon updating, the Chronicle will create a new "Settings.txt" file in the Settings folder of the SD card. This can be edited to turn on or off the following features:
    • LOADING of sequence lengths upon manual or song mode pattern loading (default = OFF)
    • Syncing of all channel playheads to step 1 upon song pattern loading. Manual pattern loading will sync all playheads to that of Channel 1. (default = ON)
    • LOADING of sequence BPM (default = OFF).

Firmware notes - V1.46

  • Software calibration fine-tune added via the mode menu. Updated panels already show the calibration position immediately above the copy button in the left column. When calibration mode is ON, the LED is GREEN. 
    • To fine-tune a channel's calibration, while in keyboard mode, hold down an octave button for that channel and turn the encoder. This will nudge the CV output up or down until you match the octave voltage required
    • After making the adjustment, turn OFF (LED will be RED) the calibration mode to save changes and to avoid making accidental adjustments.
